ABOUT KIM

Embarking on the journey of higher education later in life is far from easy—but then again, the most worthwhile endeavors seldom are. My decision to transfer to UCSB was a pivotal moment, reinforcing my belief in lifelong learning and the power of academic growth. Now, as I near the completion of my Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Film and Media at Arizona State University (Spring 2025), I continue to explore the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, digital media, and storytelling.

As a non-traditional student with over two decades in the tech industry, I bring a wealth of experience in technology, leadership, and media innovation. My time as a technologist sharpened my ability to analyze how emerging technologies shape society. Now, as I apply to Ph.D. programs in Film and Media Studies, my goal is to deepen my research on the intersection of AI, digital media, and misinformation—specifically, how technology influences public perception and truth in the modern era.

My passion lies in understanding how AI is transforming film and media, not just as a tool for creation, but as a force that reshapes narratives, engagement, and reality itself. Through storytelling, documentary filmmaking, and digital innovation, I aim to spotlight systemic social issues, propose viable solutions, and spark meaningful societal change.

AI is becoming an integral part of our news, social media, and political ecosystems. Understanding its impact and leveraging its power is critical as we navigate this evolving digital landscape. My work—both academically and professionally—is driven by the need to bridge technology, media literacy, and storytelling to empower audiences in the fight against misinformation.

Film and media have always been powerful tools for change. But when blended with AI, they have the potential to transform the way we see the world. This passion for merging storytelling with technology fuels my journey as a lifelong learner, researcher, and advocate for truth in the digital age.

STUDENT

Completing Masters in Film and Media

I believe in lifelong learning—not just in classrooms, but in everyday experiences. Curiosity has always driven me, leading me back to academia to pursue my Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Film and Media at Arizona State University (Spring 2025) and apply for a Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies. For me, film and media are more than storytelling—they are powerful catalysts for change. My academic journey is dedicated to exploring how media, AI, and digital storytelling shape public perception and how we can use these tools to drive meaningful societal impact. With a passion for truth, media literacy, and the evolving role of AI in storytelling, my goal is not just to study these forces—but to master how to leverage them for positive transformation.

WRITER

Author / Screenwriter / Speechwriter

My journey as a writer has been one of self-discovery, shaped by personal experiences and a deep desire to spark change. Writing is more than an expressive outlet for me—it’s a way to challenge narratives, share truth, and inspire transformation.

As the author of Reclaiming Truth: AI’s Role in the Disinformation Age, I explore the intersection of media, AI, and misinformation, dissecting how technology shapes public perception. My writing also reflects my experiences as a woman, a survivor, and a leader, using these perspectives to contribute to meaningful conversations on resilience, truth, and social change.

Every word I write is a call to action—an invitation to question, reflect, and be part of a collective effort toward a more informed and empowered world.

FILMMAKER

Writer, Director, Producer

My journey into filmmaking began with a love for storytelling—first as an actor, then as a creator. While I once sought to inspire change through performance, I found an even greater passion in crafting stories that provoke thought, spark dialogue, and drive social impact.

Seeing my ideas come to life on screen is an experience like no other. My films, An Unlikely Path and The Hat, were featured at the Newport Beach Film Festival, with The Hat earning multiple short film awards. More recently, A Conversation with Mars was nominated for Best in Excellence by the Beyond the Curve International Film Festival.

These honors reinforce my belief in the power of film as more than entertainment—it is a tool for awareness, emotion, and transformation. I am committed to using storytelling to challenge perspectives, amplify critical conversations, and create meaningful change.
